(Spotlight - L.A.)
(Bears in Space- L.A.)
Lights: Shawn Bunch
Chris Cruse DJ is a Los Angeles-based DJ whose sound is equally influenced by dark warehouses and West Coast sunshine. Frequently playing events in the US and Europe, his mainstay is a party of his own creation, Spotlight, which aims to reclaim and celebrate the queer roots of house, techno, disco, and other forms of dance music. Despite abstaining from social media promotion and discouraging dance floor photography, Cruse’s Spotlight has quietly become the go-to event for underground music in LA thanks to its anything-goes vibe and consistent world-class bookings.
Chris Bowen started Bears in Space (an homage to NYC radio show "Beats in Space") in 2009 at Akbar with L.A. icon Victor Rodriguez. Chris has shared billing with the likes of DJ Harvey, Optimo (Espacio), Discodromo, Session Victim, Andy Butler (Hercules & Love Affair), Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem), Dimitri from Paris, Horse Meat Disco, The Black Madonna, Daniel Wang (Balihu Records), and Tim Sweeney (Beats in Space), to name a few.

Sutherland partnered with Yondr to create a phone-free and camera-free nightclub. Our goal is to offer an opportunity to focus on the present moment. We encourage you to take a break from the digital world for a few hours, immerse yourself in the music, connect with others in the venue and let go of your inhibitions. No photos or videos allowed. What happens at Sutherland, stays at Sutherland.

You will be given a small, self-locking pouch at the door to keep your phone locked in throughout the night. You can easily keep the locked pouch in your pocket. Please send your last messages before you enter the venue to avoid delays and be prepared to lock your phone as soon as you walk through the door. We recommend you turn your phone off or set it to silent before locking it. There will be notecards at the bar if you wish to exchange your contact information with someone. When you exit, our staff will unlock your pouch and you will have access to your phone again. There is no re-entry.
